Welcome to Stellat'en First Nation, British Columbia

General Information

Located about 10 minutes west of Fraser Lake on Highway 16, the main community is on Stellaquo (Stella) I.R. No. 1. Stellat’en services two reserves totaling 851 hectares.

History

The name is derived from two Carrier words, the one meaning "peninsula" and the other "river". Reserves were allotted by Commissioner O'Reilly in 1892.

Economic Activities

Much of the economic development activities are forest-related such as a woodlot, a sawmill and contract silviculture business. Other revenues are also generated by a campsite and campground and the Slenyah Gas Bar and Convenience Store.

Affiliations

Carrier-Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC)

CSTC represents members from seven First Nations who belong to the CSTC association. Five thousand members make up the membership of the seven First Nations, which includes Burns Lake Band (Ts'il Kaz Koh First Nation), Nak'azdli Band, Nad’leh Whuten, Saik'uz First Nation, Takla Lake First Nation, Tl'azt'en Nation, and Wet'suwet'en First Nation.

The Tribal Council is an advocate for, and frequently represents the interests of, its member-nations. The Council also provides technical and professional services to its member-nations in such areas as fisheries, education, economic development, community and infrastructure planning, forestry, financial management, and treaty negotiations.
