Mayor Len Fox

Len Fox was born in Telkwa BC in 1943. He attended school there and in Smithers. He moved to Quesnel in 1958 where he took a five-year apprenticeship to become a watch maker and goldsmith. He completed the apprenticeship and moved to Vanderhoof to play hockey for the Vanderhoof Bears. In 1966 he met and married his wife, Jean. They now have three children and three grandchildren. Since moving to Vanderhoof, he has enjoyed a number of careers and owned several businesses.

Len first entered public office in 1977 when he was elected as a school trustee and was re-elected in 1979 and 1981. He served as Chairman of the Board in 1980 and 1981. In November 1981, Len was elected Mayor of Vanderhoof and was re-elected for three subsequent terms. During those years, Len served on the North Central Municipal Association executive for six years, two years as president.

He also served on the executive of the Union of BC Municipalities for five years, two of which he sat as first vice-president. In addition, Len was appointed to the Northern Development Council for five years and chaired the Council for two years.

In 1990 Len chose not to run for the Mayor’s Office but instead, ran in a provincial election. He was elected to the Provincial Legislature in October 1991 as the MLA for the Prince George-Omineca Region and sat until 1996.

Mayor Fox returned to the local political scene in 1999 when he was again elected as Mayor. He was acclaimed in 2005 and his current term of office expires in November 2008.

District of Vanderhoof Municipal Councillors

 
Councillor Jenny Bahr   Councillor Jenny Bahr

Jenny has lived most of her life in Northern BC and has been a Vanderhoof resident since 1975. She and her husband have two sons who have both grown up and graduated from high school here. Jenny worked with her husband in his business for 15 years.

In 1990 Jenny obtained her real estate license, and she is currently employed with Remax Vanderhoof.

Councillor Bahr has been a director and president of the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Vanderhoof Curling Club, actively involved in minor hockey and minor soccer and a member of parent advisory committees over the years. She was first elected to Municipal Council in 1999. Her portfolio includes health, education, Chamber of Commerce and the Nechako Watershed Council. Her term of office expires in 2008.

Councillor Bahr is dedicated to making sure our community continues to be a place in which we can all take pride, a place where we can all prosper and feel safe in raising our families.

Councillor Jack French Councillor Jack French

Jack's grandparents arrived in Vanderhoof in 1914. His parents raised three boys in Vanderhoof where Jack was born in 1946. He graduated from high school in 1963 and has subsequently earned Bachelor of Science Degrees in math and physics, a teaching certificate from the University of Victoria and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Jack has taught at Nechako Valley Secondary School in Vanderhoof for 26 years where he has taught mostly mathematics. He and his wife of 25 years are raising 3 teenage boys. Jill is also a teacher and is currently teaching grade 1 at a rural elementary school.

Jack has been a councillor for over 18 years, with a break only to teach in Australia for a year in 1998. Councillor French enjoys traveling, mostly in his motor home, and his hobbies include running and aviation. He puts his aviation knowledge to work in CASARA, a search and rescue organization using aircraft.

Councillor French acts as Council’s liaison to the Vanderhoof Public Library, the Nechako Valley Historical Society and is a member of the Airport Development Committee. His term of office expires in November 2008.

Councillor Brian Frenkel  Councillor Brian Frenkel

Brian graduated from the College of New Caledonia's Forest Technology program in 1982. Shortly thereafter he moved to Vanderhoof seeking employment in the forest industry, and in September 1983 started work with Avison Management Services Ltd.

In 1984, he married Nadine Reid from Vanderhoof and was blessed to have two children, Breanne (born in 1985) and Trent (born in 1988).

During 1987, Brian became a partner in Avison Management Services Ltd. and has worked there since. He is also a partner in Premium Pellet Ltd., the largest wood pellet producer in the world.

Brian has been vice-president and president of the Vanderhoof International Airshow, Northern Wood Forums and numerous sporting associations in Vanderhoof. He has coached baseball, basketball and hockey over the years.  

Brian was a councillor with the District of Vanderhoof from 1995-1999, and then for the term from 2003 to 2005. His current term ends in November 2008.

Councillor Jody Pedersen Councillor Jody Pedersen

Councillor Pedersen was born Jody Michelle Gerhardi on July 25, 1973 at in Vanderhoof. She was raised in the area, graduating from high school in 1991. She graduated with a diploma in dental hygiene in 1994.

Councillor Pedersen moved to Vanderhoof in June 1994 and started working as a dental hygienist in Dr. Wong's dental office, where she is currently employed. In 1995 Jody married Lanny Pedersen. They have two young children, Lachlan and Jailynn.

Her career as a Municipal Councillor began in December 1999. She holds the portfolios of Recreation and Leisure Services and Protective Services. Her term of office expires in November 2008. In her spare time Jody enjoys spending time with her family and friends, participating in outdoor activities, sports, and traveling.

Councillor Jim Woodruff Councillor Jim Woodruff

Jim was born in England and moved to Canada in 1955 with his parents and brother. He graduated from BCIT in 1970 with a Certificate of Technology in Gas and Oil Operations.

He began employment with Westcoast Transmission in Vancouver but transferred to Pacific Northern Gas in 1971 and moved to Terrace. Subsequently he moved to Prince Rupert and then to Vanderhoof where he has resided with his wife Linda since that time. They have two sons, Dustin and Cameron and two grandchildren, Lucas and Jessie. Jim has been employed at Pacific Northern Gas for 34 years and his wife was the past owner-operator of Royal-LePage Woodruff Realty.

Councillor Woodruff has been on the municipal council for 23 years in total and has enjoyed the challenge of this position. His current portfolio with council is Public Works and he acts as the Alternate Director to the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako. His interests include curling, golf, fishing and relaxing at their cabin on beautiful Stuart Lake.

Councillor Woodruff is a life member of the local Kinsmen Club and has been a board member of various community organizations throughout the years. He currently sits as a member of the local Crimestoppers Board. His term of office expires in November 2008.

Ken grew up in Vanderhoof and graduated from Nechako Valley Secondary School where he currently teaches. He has a Bachelor of Education Degree and is currently completing a Masters Degree in Education as well. He has worked for School District 91 since 1996.

Ken married Monica McKee in 1988 and they have seven children - Derryk, Brynna, Brock, Jaidynne, Jayce, Kayden and Mykelle. The eldest has just graduated from high school and the middle four are school-aged.

Councillor Young began his career as a municipal councillor in December of 1999. His interests outside of work and municipal affairs center around his family, camping, traveling, sports and volunteerism.

Councillor Young’s portfolio responsibilities include the Prince George Treaty Advisory Committee, the Diversity Project, Youth Services/Recreation and the Nechako Valley Exhibition Society where he sits as a director. His term of office expires in November 2008.
