Fort St James RCMP Detachment
The Fort St James Detachment is staffed by one Sergeant in-charge of the detachment two Corporals, seven general duty Constables, and has four First Nations Policing positions: one Corporal assigned to Yekooche, two constables assigned to Tl'azt'en and one constable assigned to Nak'azdli.

Fort St. James Detachment provides a service to a number of First Nations communities through Community Tripartite Policing agreements exist with the Tl'azt’en, Nak'azdli and Yekooche First Nations. In 2002, a community police office opened on the Yekooche First Nations Reserve. A First Nations Community Policing position, staffed at a corporal level, works out of the Yekooche First Nation Community Police office.

Fraser Lake RCMP Detachment
The Fraser Lake RCMP Detachment consists of 6 members: 1 Sergeant, 4 Constables and 1 Public Servant. Their jurisdiction encompasses the Stellat’en Reserve on the west end of Fraser Lake and the Nadleh Reserve on the east end. Policing concerns differ little between the native and non-native communities.

Vanderhoof RCMP Detachment
The RCMP serves the community of Vanderhoof and area, including the Saik’uz First Nations reservation. The local detachment has 13 officers, one part time police-based victim services advocate, three clerks and seven casual commissionaires. The Vanderhoof detachment handles 4,000 files per year on average.

Fire Protection

Regional Fire Departments
The  Fort St James Fire Department is staffed by 1 Fire Chief and volunteer fire fighters.  The Fire Department also operates a Fire Training Facility. Visit the Fort St James Fire Department website.

The Fraser Lake Fire Department is staffed by 1 Fire Chief and a crew of volunteer fire fighters; who receive an honorarium for the calls they attend. The service area includes: Village boundaries to the top of Priestly Hill and east to Willowvale Road which slightly extends the boundary.  The Fire Department has 2 pumper trucks and 1 highway reserve vehicle.

The District of Vanderhoof fire protection boundaries encompass 53.46 hectares, and duties include fire safety and suppression firstly, and highway emergency assistance second. The full-time Fire Chief is assisted by a dedicated group of 35 volunteers with training and skills.

Ambulance Service

All calls to the emergency number for an ambulance go to the Kamloops dispatch for response by fire, police and ambulance.

Vanderhoof is served by a 24-hour ambulance service, employing 17 staff at the paramedical (advanced life support) level. The station has two ambulance units that are staffed 24-hours per day.
