Who We Are

Nechako Valley Community Services Society (N.V.C.S.S.) is a registered non-profit society that provides counselling services for children, youth and adults in the communities of Vanderhoof and Fort St. James as well as providing service for children and youth two days a week in Fraser Lake. 


The Society was established in 1977 and currently has a seven-member board of directors with representation from the three communities that we serve.  Our Board members are all professionals or retired professionals who have extensive experience in business and/or social purpose enterprise. 

The agency employs an average of twenty counselling and administration staff members.

Our general office hours are between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.  Some evening work is done if required.

Accounts are audited yearly by a Certified Chartered Accountant and a copy of the audited statement is available on request.

Mission Statement

Nechako Valley Community Services Society is dedicated to collaborating with Government Ministries and Community Based Organizations in supporting children, families and individuals in order to promote independence and confidence in managing their daily lives.

Objectives

Based on the philosophy and within the resources available to us, the Society will strive to provide and maintain:

  • Programs to include physical, social and emotional assistance and advocacy for children, families and individuals.
  • Programs on the promotion of health including self care, life skills, parenting and wellness.
  • An atmosphere in which the rights of clients and staff to be free from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse will be respected and maintained.
  • A safe working environment with opportunity for personal growth and development, beneficial to the client, the employee and the community.
  • Strict client confidentiality.
  • The inclusion of the client and family in planning of interventions which will respect the clients values and beliefs.
  • An organization which is responsible and fiscally stable.

Philosophy

N.V.C.S.S. is committed to offering quality and cost effective programs intended to maximize the independence of the individual, the family and their support systems. These programs are not intended to relieve clients of functions they can and should assume for themselves.

The Society respects the rights of individuals to their own values, cultural views and religious beliefs.

The Society supports advocacy for individual clients and will work with the communities to advocate for a comprehensive delivery of service.
